Struggling to keep a clean home? Having a clean home can be easily done with developing the right habits! I recently read a quote that says, “You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” -John C. Maxwell
If you want to keep a clean home, I will share a few daily habits that make the difference. They are not very complicated, but if you implement these in your life, they will determine your success in keeping your home nice and tidy all the time!

1. Make Your Bed Every Day
Since the first thing you do in the day is get out of bed, this one goes first! Make your bed daily! This really sets the mood for the day. If you roll out of bed and skip this step, next time you walk into your room, it will look like a mess. For me, a made bed means I’m ready for the day and setting myself up for success. Such an easy but essential habit to form for a clean home!

2. Clean as You Go!
Many times if you leave cleaning for later, it becomes harder and more overwhelming. This one specifically applies to the kitchen. If you leave dishes in the sink all day to later wash them, it will take you a lot longer to clean than if you would do it right away! Or if you like to use your dishwasher, rinse and load the dishes up right after breakfast so that you don’t have to look at them all day!
But this also applies all around the house. As you live life in your house, quickly pick things up and put them where they belong as you see them. For example, you walk into the bathroom and notice that the towel is soaked and dirty, throw it in the hamper and immediately switch it out. Or you see that the sink is grimy and the mirror is full of splashes, wash the sink and wipe the mirror.
This tip especially works wonders with keeping a tidy home with kids, especially toddlers. Check out our post on how to keep a clean home with kids here.
3. Vacuum Daily
My next habit for keeping your home clean is to vacuum daily. I’m not saying to vacuum your whole floor daily. Just the parts of your home that are most frequently used. For me this is my kitchen and mudroom. At the end of each day, either right before my husband gets home from work or after I finish cleaning after dinner, I will quickly vacuum up all the crumbs and dirt. This one was a game changer for me! I used to vacuum the entire house about once or twice a week. But now that I do it daily, it keeps the floor clean for longer! I don’t find myself needing to wash the floors quite as often! I wash the floor about two times a week or more if necessary using this mop.
Another part of making it easier to keep your floors clean is to not wear shoes inside. If you like, have a pair of indoor shoes that you only wear inside the house. But don’t track all the dirt you pick up outside into your house by wearing shoes indoors. Leave the shoes in the mudroom and it will surprise you how much cleaner your floors stay.

4. Keep Surfaces Clean
This habit really makes up for a clean looking home! The first part of this daily habit is to keep your surfaces clutter free. This will make it easier to keep your surfaces clean. In the kitchen, wipe down the counters after each meal you prepare and wipe down the table after each meal. Same goes in the living room. Any surface that you have whether it be a coffee table or bookshelf, make sure it is clutter-less and wipe the dust off when necessary. Also in the bathroom, keep the vanity clear so that you can easily clean it up when it gets dirty. The more stuff you have on a surface, the more work it is to clean up! Keeping all the surfaces clear of clutter and dust is vital to keeping a clean home.

5. Put Your Home to Sleep Before Bed
The final daily habit is to put your house to bed every night. What I mean by this is to tidy everything up so that when you wake up, you wake up to a clean home. Put your home into order in a way that you will appreciate when you wake up. In the mornings, I tend to be sleepy and not so energetic so I thank myself if I properly put my home in order the night before to start the day with a new slate. This sets you up for success the next day! As I mentioned earlier, I quickly run the vacuum around the main areas, clean the kitchen up, put away toys and clutter, fix the pillows on the couches, and make my home presentable.
