Having a clean home with kids can seem impossible, but it is doable! Do you feel like you are drowning in toys, spills, and a messy home with kids? Some people throw the idea away that they can have a clean home with kids, but I hope these tips will give you hope that you can!
1. Minimize Clutter
The easiest way to keep your home in control is minimizing as much clutter as you can! Only keeping things out that you use daily and putting everything else away is key to keeping your home clean. I don’t know about you, but a lot of toys tossed everywhere is very irritating to me, so minimize the toys first! I’m not saying to throw all your kids favorite toys away. What I am saying is keep a small bin of toys out for your kids. Once you notice your kids getting bored with the toys out, swap them out with some other toys. Rotating through the toys can help keep your kids engaged and interested for a longer time period and minimize on toy clutter.
Some more easy and helpful tips on minimizing clutter in your home is to always keep a box for donation. As you go about your day, if there is something that is not used or doesn’t have a home, place it in the donation box. I usually keep the box around until it fills up. By the time the box is filled, you will be able to test if you need them. To be honest, I almost never miss anything I put in my donation box and happily drive it over to Goodwill.

2. Keep a Cleaning Routine
Everyone has a different cleaning style and routine that works for them. As the homemaker, make it your challenge and goal to keep your home clean at all times. For some people, they enjoy cleaning a different room of their house every day. For example, Monday is for bathrooms, Tuesday is for the kitchen, and etc. Others like having one day set aside for cleaning the whole house. Whatever works for you, have a cleaning routine that you do every week that keeps your home clean and tidy. This is to ensure every week your toilets are scrubbed, sinks washed, carpet vacuumed, floors washed, mirrors wiped, and furniture dusted.
Growing up, Saturdays were our big cleaning day. We usually cleaned the house in the morning and went to a park or lake for the rest of the day. Throughout the week we just picked up the house but Saturday was for cleaning the whole house. Then the Saturday before Easter and Thanksgiving is when we DEEP deep-cleaned the home. 3. Clean As You Go
What this means is to pick things up as you see them. For example, you are walking from the living room to the kitchen and on your way over you see the pillows are lying on the floor and some books are left behind on the couch. Quickly put the books on the bookshelf and place the pillows on the couch and move on with your day. Wipe up spills as soon as they happen. You see the bathroom sink is super grimy and you wash it right aways before exiting the room. Doing things right off the bat will save you so much time and effort! This also means you need to have your cleaning supplies handy in every room so you can do it right aways.

Also, when I am cooking or baking in the kitchen, I try to reuse bowls and keep up on the dishes as I am cooking so that I do not have a whole pile of dishes waiting for me when I finish cooking. As soon as you have a spare minute, just keep tidying behind yourself. You will thank yourself later!

4. Put the Right Organizing System in Place
When every item has a home in your house, it will take less than 5 minutes to clean up a room. I like using baskets like these and these to keep closets and shelves neatly organized. I would recommend taking the quiz that Cas from Clutterbug has to see what organizing style works best for you. This will help you find a home for everything and keep a clean home with kids.
