5 Ways to Bring Spring Into the Home

February 28, 2025 by TwoPeasinTwoPods 1 Comment

What are some ways to bring spring into the home? With March just around the corner and 70 degree days here in Central California, I already consider it spring, although I know it officially only starts March 20th. Nowadays, we’re practically living outdoors unless it’s raining out there! We go on daily walks around the neighborhood with my boys in a double stroller, play in the backyard with our Labrador, watch the herbs in our garden peeking out, go pick up eggs from the chicken coop, eat dinner on the porch, have picnics on our lawn under the flowering almond tree, go biking as a family after dinner, and take care of the chicks we incubated.

Maybe in your region, you are still in the thick of winter. Each season offers its own perks and in colder seasons, our homes get to be our cozy refuge. Let your climate be your guide! Either way, spring is bound to come soon. I hope these tips will come in handy whenever you are ready 🙂

We can definitely feel spring in the air when we’re outdoors, but I also want to bring the freshness of spring into our house. Homemaking looks different through the seasons. Each season brings an unique beauty. I like to use the five senses to think of how I can bless my family in my home through each season. Join me in welcoming spring into our homes!

The Five Senses of Spring

  • Sight- incorporate greenery, like houseplants, and include floral designs so that it LOOKS like spring in your home!
  • Hearing- open up the windows to HEAR the melodies the birds are chirping outside or turn on Vivaldi’s Spring on a speaker.
  • Smell-clip some blooming branches or wildflowers and make a floral arrangement for the air to SMELL like spring. Another idea is to turn on the diffuser with some lavender or jasmine essential oil!
  • Touch- swap the knitted and warm throw blankets with linen and more breathable fabrics. TOUCH up paint around your house, like the baseboards.
  • Taste- whatever is currently growing is great to cook with to TASTE spring. Fresh salads with arugula or roasting some fresh asparagus are just a few ideas. Better yet, make a smoothie with some fresh-picked strawberries!

Let’s get into the 5 ways to bring spring into the home, shall we?!

1. Declutter

The world outside is getting renewed with leaves budding out on trees and blooms starting to come out. There is a transition from dormant winter to lively spring. Spring represents a fresh start and new beginnings. The warmer weather gives me the energy and excitement to spruce up my home by decluttering it. In my opinion, decluttering is essential to a cozy home because it makes cleaning so much easier. To add, decluttering provides a clean slate so that adding decor actually looks pretty and not overwhelming. Even though I consistently get rid of items that no longer serve my family, I like doing a spring decluttering week when I go through every single drawer, cabinet, and closet in my house.

With the warmer weather coming, I like to look through all of the warm winter clothes and donate any items of clothing that my husband and I didn’t reach for or throw away the clothes that are maxed out. My boys will be wearing different sizes next fall/winter, so I put away the nice winter clothes into storage and get rid of any worn out clothes.

2. Touch Up Paint

Springtime is the best time to get any painting done because the weather is ideal- moderate temperatures and low humidity. Our Mama grew up in Siberia and she recounts that they would put a fresh coat of paint on their walls yearly before Easter. I’m guessing the brutal winters would cause the paint to ware off quicker. We do not need to repaint our walls every year here(thankfully), but more than likely you probably have leftover paint sitting in the garage that can cover up anything that got messed up. We painted the interior of our home before we moved in a year ago in February, so there was just a few spots that needed to be painted over. However, the baseboards got the most wear and tear, so painting them really updated the look in our home.

3. Wash Windows

Spring cleaning is another great way to welcome spring into your home! One of those duties is to wash the windows from all of the grime that accumulated over the winter. Opening up windows is so vital for the air in the home to get ventilated and cleared out from any dust or pollutants after being mostly cooped in during the winter. In order to get fresh air in, it’s important to first clean the windows and screens that way all the accumulated dust doesn’t fly in. Check out our fantastic all-purpose cleaning spray that I like to use to wash my windows.

My favorite sounds are how the birds chirp so sweetly during the spring. Listening to all of the different songs is so soothing and makes my heart want to sing too! Invite the spring air into your home by washing the windows and opening them up!

4. Bring in Blooms

“The world laughs in flowers.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Why not literally bring spring flowers into the home to celebrate this seasonal transition? Trader Joe’s offers a /variety of beautiful blooms, especially this time of year. A thrifty option is to cut some wildflowers outside for free and place it inside. Wildflowers are my favorite because they are usually more fragrant and look so perfectly imperfect!

Bringing blooms inside is one of the ways to bring spring into the home.

Make a spring wreath with some blooms to welcome anyone coming into the house. Artificial flowers work wonderfully as you can reuse them for many years. The key is to find fake stems that look real; otherwise, fake flowers look tacky. Dried flower wreaths are gorgeous as well, like this one that hangs on the inside of our front door.

Indoor houseplants are another way to make a space come alive and freshen up! If I’m buying “flowers”, I prefer to buy green foliage in pots that will hopefully thrive longer than cut flowers. Check out our post on easy houseplants for beginners to get some ideas of easy-to-care-for plants!

5. Spring Decor- Paintings and Pillow Covers

Rotating out decor items through the seasons brings so much excitement! A special way to transition your home decor to spring is to hang up some paintings of springtime. Whenever I go thrift shopping, I look out for beautiful oil paintings that would match my home’s color scheme. However, those are pretty hard to find (at least for me since I do not go thrifting very often). There are some cheap options on Amazon that also still have the vintage feel. If you’re not into paintings, another way to highlight springtime is to purchase a fresh pillow cover for your sofa. Though this idea is not novel, it does make a difference. My sister actually gave me some pillowcases she had on hand and I think the subtle blue florals are dainty hints that spring is here;)
