After trying this homemade ranch dressing you will not want to go back to store-bought! It tastes very fresh, does not contain any preservatives or additives, and you probably already have the ingredients on hand!
After moving up to the foothills, the biggest thing I had to get used to is that I could not just run to the store last minute! The closest grocery store is more than 30 minutes away, so I had to learn to substitute with what I got on hand. Making a sourdough pizza one night, I realized we ran out of ranch, so I whipped this recipe up and I’ve never gone back to store-bought since!

Alternatives for Ranch Dressing
Fresh Instead of Dried Herbs
If you have fresh dill, parsley, or garlic on hand, feel free to use fresh instead! This will make your ranch dressing taste more vibrant! For 1 teaspoon dried dill or parsley use 2 teaspoons of finely cut fresh herb. For the garlic you could substitute with 4 minced cloves.
Keep in mind if you use fresh herbs, your ranch will not last as long. I’ve found that with fresh herbs my ranch goes bad quicker than with dried herbs.
Buttermilk
If you happen to have buttermilk on hand, feel free to substitute the milk and lemon juice with buttermilk instead! Whenever I have buttermilk I absolutely opt for this method. It makes the ranch much more creamy!
