Making bar soap sounds very intimidating, especially when dealing with lye. However, there is an easy method of making your own homemade soap by melting the base, adding whatever essential oils and add-ins you’d like, and pouring into molds. This is the kind of bar-soap-making I like! 😉
My favorite kind of base for a bar soap is this one with goat milk. However, there are so many varieties you can choose from. Some examples are- shea butter, cocoa butter, and mango butter.
Today I’m going to be sharing two different kinds of bar soaps you can make that are both with the same goat milk base.
Calendula Citrus Honey Soap
Ingredients:
- 1 pound goat milk soap base
- 2 tbsp dried calendula flowers
- 1 tbsp honey
- 15 drops of mandarin essential oil
- 15 drops of grapefruit essential oil

Coffee Vanilla Bar Soap
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of goat milk soap base
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp coffee grounds(we used the leftovers from an espresso shot)

First and foremost, cut up the goat milk soap base into cubes or shred it up. Next, melt the soap base either on a double boiler on the stove top or in the microwave at 30 second intervals, mixing it around and keeping your eye on it. Once the base is completely melted, add in the other ingredients. Pour right aways into the silicone mold. Wait for the soap to fully cool down and harden. Ta-da! That is all there is to this melt-and-pour method of soap making!
We liked using both of these bar soaps. The reason I included the calendula flowers and coffee grounds is to exfoliate the skin. It also makes the bar soaps look pretty. However, these add-ins can also make the bar soaps a bit messy. That doesn’t bother me because I just wash off whatever falls off the bar soaps while I’m in the shower anyways:).
