Sight
Our sight plays a big role in making our homes cozy. Keeping our home clean is the number one way to make it cozy! Check out our fall deep-cleaning check list for motivation! Also, I like to look at pretty things, so how do I do this in the fall time?
Bringing in Fall Foliage
I love going out and trimming branches from trees to bring inside. Especially when the leaves start changing colors, it’s so pretty to bring in the pops of color. I also love to pick wildflowers when we go on walks to bring indoors. You could even hang them upside down to dry and then make an arrangement of beautiful dried flowers! Check out this beautiful fall swag Irene made for her front door!

Dimmer Lighting
I recently wrote a post of how I thrifted and renovated a couple of lamps in my home in preparation for fall. The dimmer and warmer lighting definitely helps set the atmosphere in the evening as the days get shorter! We got the lamp in the left photo from Amazon.

Hanging Fall Prints
I replaced some of my frames with some beautiful fall themed paintings. Here I found a beautiful pear painting that I printed out for free!

Pull Out the Fall Decor
If you have any fall decor you already have on hand, pull those out and display them! I found some pink pumpkins at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago. I’ve since wanted to spray paint them green and orange to make them look more realistic, but I still pulled them out and placed them on the coffee table.

Make Fall Decor Yourself
It’s so fun to make your own decor if you have the time for it! I recently posted how I made some fabric pumpkins out of socks and material I had on hand. I also collaborated with other bloggers with their handmade fall decor. Check the post out for some inspiration here!

Smell
Did you know that smells are connected to memories? Have you ever smelled something and right aways remembered a specific moment in childhood or grandmas house? I remember learning this back in college when I was going for a nurse. The amygdala and the hippocampus, our emotion and memory parts of our brain, combine the two so that the memory is forever stored in your brain. So how can we apply this in our home so that our children will have sweet memories of growing up in our home?

Baking & Cooking
The smells of the kitchen can bring back memories of sweet childhood days. I can attest that they certainly do! I remember coming in the house from school on a rainy cold day and smelling a delicious hot soup ready or cookies in the oven. Get an apple pie going in the oven and your home will smell divine!

Coffee & Tea Station
During this time of year I dedicate a special corner of the kitchen to have all the tea and coffee supplies in one spot! This makes for easy access to favorite hot drinks throughout the day when you need a little pick-me-up! Learn how Irene set-up her beautiful coffee bar as well!

Fall Simmer Pot
If you don’t know what a simmer pot or potpourri is, its just fruit and herbs you put on the stove to boil that makes your home smell good.
Here are some ideas of what you could throw into a simmer pot for the fall time:
- apple slices
- orange peels
- cinnamon
- sliced ginger
- cloves
- vanilla
The list can go on and on! Just throw in your favorite smelling things into a pot and pour water over it. Turn it on low and let it simmer!
Fall Candles
Turn on candles to make your home smell good! We love making beeswax candles and burning those because they actually purify the air and don’t have too strong of smells that makes you get a headache. Keep your eyes open for the instructions on how to make the beeswax candles soon!

Taste
This one goes along with the smell! Once you smell something delicious, you got to taste and eat it! Food made with pumpkin seem to taste the best in the fall time! It is just the most fitting vegetable to eat during this time. Pumpkin spiced latte, pumpkin pie, etc. We also enjoy thicker soups, like chili, during sweater weather. Cinnamon baked goods are tempting this time of year as well.

Touch
In the summer, it gets so hot we don’t want many layers in bed, on the sofa, and generally around the house. But in the fall time, that’s when it’s time to get all the cozy blankets out for the chilly mornings and evenings. I switch our bedding for heavier and thicker duvets and comforters. Throw cozy blankets on furniture or fill baskets in the living room with throws for easy access.

Sound
Open your windows in the mornings and listen to the birds chirp and all the beautiful sounds of nature. God made nature to be healing and refreshing to our souls so lets bless our homes with it by bringing it indoors. My husband and I enjoy singing and playing instruments together, so take time in the evenings to worship the Lord together! If you are not musically inclined, turn on soft music to play in the background as you prepare dinner that will set the ambiance of your home this fall! In our busy world, let’s take the time to live life slow and enjoy the season we are in.
