Pothos

Also known as Epipremnum aureum, pothos is known for its durability and easy propagation. The pothos isn’t picky when it comes to lighting. As long as it gets some kind of indirect light, it’s good to go! When it comes to propagating, simply trim the plant and stick the new stem with a few leaves into water. Wait for the new little pothos to grow some roots and transplant into another pot. My favorite quality of the pothos is how it droops down the side. This one is perfect to plant in a hanging basket for the leaves to overflow and create lush foliage. Watering this plant is also so easy! I just let the soil dry out between waterings and mist the leaves about once a week. Click here to the misting bottle that I invested in. This plant is really one of the easiest houseplants for beginners! Even my two-year-old son enjoys misting all of our indoor plants.

Monstera

This monstera has lots of nicknames: the Swiss cheese plant, split-leaf philodendron, and monstera delicioso. It’s so satisfying to watch as the new leaf unfolds on this plant! As of right now, my monstera has at least four new leaves that are about to open up. It’s aways a surprise to see whether or not the new leaf will have those classic holes on them. It’s no rocket science caring for this plant either! Just make sure to water once the soil gets dry and keep it in a bright spot without direct sunlight. This plant also loves getting misted and the leaves always spruce up after a shower.

Prayer Plant

The official name of the prayer plant is Maranta leuconeura. Fun fact: people call it a prayer plant because the leaves fold up at night, making it look like praying hands. Even though some people may argue that this plant is not-so-easy to maintain, having the right watering schedule and keeping it in a humid space makes it thrive! My praying plant’s home is the bathroom, which provides the perfect humidity from all of the showers we take to keep it happy. As with the watering, be careful to overwater this plant because that can cause root rot, which is a common mistake among prayer plant killers. The praying plant also loves the sunlight, so be sure to put it near a window.

Fiddle-Leaf Fig

Next, this Ficus lyrata is a classic staple among houseplant lovers! Since I play the violin myself, I adore the fiddle-shaped leaves on this tree. This plant holds a special place in my heart because my older sister actually gifted my husband and me this plant for our wedding. The fiddle-leaf fig is symbolic of new beginnings, which matched the occasion we got this tree for.
In order to keep this tree healthy, it’s important to keep two points in mind. Primarily, keep the ficus near a window to have the rays of sunshine pouring onto it. Don’t forget to rotate the pot regularly so that the leaves grow evenly without all facing the light source. Secondly, keep the soil moderately moist at all times. Optionally, it’s a wonderful idea to fertilize the focus ever so often. I recently fertilized my tree with this fertilizer and three new leaves popped out all at the same time, as seen in the photo below.

Snake Plant

Another one of the hardy plants, the Dracaena trifasciata is a sturdy houseplant that will be good-to-go watered only every two weeks. Not only is the watering so easy to keep up with, this snake plant has no troubles acclimating to different lightings. It will appreciate lots of natural lighting, but can also grow without problems in a dim room. Stick this houseplant into a dark corner, and you’ll still be able to enjoy this beautiful striped plant!

Dragon Tree

Officially know as Dracaena marginata, the dragon tree flourishes with ease! This spiky tree grows well with medium amount of light and is drought-tolerant. Even NASA lists this plant as an excellent plant for removing toxic chemicals. This tree is definitely welcomed in our household for that reason! Additionally, this tree propagates fairly easily, which makes it so fun to share this “air-purifier” with friends. The dragon plant is one of the easiest houseplants for beginners because it’s stress-free to care for and is a wonderful option to give to others who want one too. All it takes to propagate is to cut off a part of the branch and allow time for air-layering for the roots to form. Repot the new little dragon tree and spread the love!

Spider Plant

Last but definitely not least, the spider plant(Chlorophytum comosum) is really one of the easiest plants to take care of! Even though this spider plant needs lots of indirect light, placing this houseplant next to a window that receives sunshine for most of the day encourages the spider plant to thrive. Other than that one factor, the spider plant doesn’t ask much of you. This plant should be watered only when the top two inches of soil feel dry. This houseplant is fuss free and a beauty to gaze at! Win-win! Look at those new little spider leaves blooming! There’s something that makes me so excited to see new growth on my houseplants:)
