December 10, 2025 by TwoPeasinTwoPods 2 Comments

“On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me, potpourri, two bar soaps, and a loaf of sourdough bread.”

Welcome to the third day of the “12 Days of Christmas Series”! If you haven’t been following along, we are bringing 12 homemade gift ideas this season in tune with “The 12 Days of Christmas” song! The first day was gifting sourdough bread. Then the second day was homemade bar soaps and now today we bring homemade potpourri!

Homemade Potpourri Blend

What a wonderful idea it is to gift a dried blend of potpourri for people to be able to simmer in their own homes for the season? It’s like gifting a candle except it can be customized easily, it’s non-toxic, and it comes from the heart of the home, the kitchen.

What You Need:

  • dried oranges
  • cloves
  • cinnamon sticks
  • rosemary
  • dried ginger

Honestly, there are many possibilities to what you can add into your potpourri blend. Some great options for Christmas scents include: cranberries, stars of anise, ginger, and lemons!

How to Dry the Ingredients

First, slice up the fresh produce and wipe the excess juice off with a paper towel. Next, bake at a low temperature for a few hours until dry to the touch. Or, if you have a dehydrator, it makes this step even easier!

How to Gift Potpourri

One way to gift the potpourri is to throw the blends into cute jars or baggies with a ribbon. Also, feel free to add a little label on what is included and your name. It’s super simple and super special! People love homemade gifts!

Another way is to just place the ingredients into a cute bowl like shown below.

Fresh vs. Dried

You could gift fresh ingredients, but it isn’t as convenient to gift because the fresh ingredients can go bad. Whereas if you dry all of the fresh ingredients, it is shelf-stable and can be used in their own time.

More Potpourri Ideas

Check out our fall potpourri blend for some more ideas! We included apples, lemons, mandarins, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. This is an example of how to do it from fresh ingredients.
