Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party: Neutral & Simple Decor

October 4, 2024 by TwoPeasinTwoPods 1 Comment

We threw our firstborn son a Winnie the Pooh themed birthday party with a neutral spin and very simple decor. Follow along to get some tips on how to throw a birthday party.

How is our baby boy already one!? The first year just flew by way too fast. It seems silly to even have a birthday party for a one-year old because they probably won’t even remember any of it, but I think it’s more for the parents to recognize they made it through the first year!

As I was prepping and planning my son’s first birthday, I scrolled through Pinterest trying to get ideas of what fit his little personality for the theme. Irene threw me a beautiful baby shower that was also Winnie the Pooh themed, so I decided to continue the cute theme because it fits his “Pooh” personality.

How Do I Decorate for a Party?

  1. First, choose what theme you want to go with. There are so many ideas out there, the hardest part is choosing which one to go with!
  2. Next, set a budget of how much you are willing to spend on the decor and food.
  3. Then, go on Pinterest and get ideas of what you want to include in your party. Make a board for your specific party for all of the ideas to be in one place.
  4. Lastly, go on Amazon and search for decor you want to include in your party.

Use Decor You Have on Hand

I like to use decor that I already have on hand that way you do not have to spend much on the party. For this party, I decided to buy the hundred acre wood map backdrop so that I can use in my son’s room after the party. Also, I really liked the idea of having the balloon arch and the 1 balloon. I also needed a candle for my son to blow out, so I ordered the whole 24 pack to have for future birthdays as well. Lastly, the day before the party, I got the baby’s breath flowers to decorate the cake and tables with.

Everything else, was either hand-made or something I already had on hand. The super cute “Finley’s Hundred Acre Wood” was engraved by Irene’s husband and attached on the stick by my husband. Also, the wooden board that had the cute Pooh engraved on it was also made by Vlad, Irene’s husband. I keep telling him he needs to open up his own shop, he does a fantastic job!

Have a Picture Collage

People love looking at photos! I printed off my baby’s 0-12 month photos that I took of him every month and put it all together into a photo collage on a board staged right next to the Pooh board. I also had my son’s baby book on the coffee table for people to look at if they wished. After all, this celebration was about Fin’s first year of life and God’s goodness to him and our family!

Food Menu for Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party

I like to make easy food for a large crowd. Rice is easy to make for a large gathering because it is cheap and filling. Another great option is potatoes: mashed, baked, or cooked. Any type works great for a large party. Next, for protein I decided to buy the frozen and ready-to-cook chicken wings and breaded shrimp from Costco. It’s nice to have variety and I have some pescatarian siblings. For appetizers, we went with the Winnie the Pooh theme: Piglets in a Blanket, Eeyore’s Veggie Platter, and just some sandwich pinwheels. My family loves salads, so we had Rabbit’s Garden Salad which featured my sister’s delicious Thai salad. For drinks, we continued the theme by naming it Pooh’s Punch, when all it was was water mixed with raspberry syrup. In another drink dispenser we had some mint-infused water.

My sister made the most delicious salad that was made with rice noodles, fried chicken, sliced purple and green cabbage, cilantro, and sliced carrots that was a hit. Served with peanut sauce or the egg roll sweet and spicy sauce, it was delicious and very filling! I want to have this recipe on the blog soon, so keep your eye out in our “Delicious Cooking” tab!

The Birthday Cake

For the birthday cake, I went with an easy sponge cake base and a cream cheese and heavy whipping cream frosting. I made two portions of the sponge cake. When the cake cooled, I cut both of them in half and spread the cream inside for a layered delicious cake. Then, I just topped it with blueberries and baby’s breath.

For the cream, I just mixed the one package of cream cheese with a half cup of sugar and then added two cups of heavy whipping cream until it came together and was the consistency I was looking for. I set some cream aside for the birthday boy’s cake.

Birthday Boy’s Smash Cake: Winnie the Pooh Themed Honeypot Cake

For my son’s smash cake, I made the same sponge cake and cream but mixed in a teaspoon of turmeric into the cream to give it a yellow color for the honeypot look. Then, with some black frosting I got from Walmart, I spelled out “Hunny” on it Winnie the Pooh style.

Games/Activities

There are many games out there that you can pay and print out, but my family enjoys just catching up and singing together. We did fill a piñata up as an activity for the kiddos. That was fun for the adults to watch and the kids to hit.
